Venture across the river where the Knox story and celebration continues at Schuyler Mansion!   • 250th Anniversary of Knox’s Noble Train of Artillery (Sunday, December 14, 2025 02:00 PM - 05:00 PM)

    Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site Living historians will reenact the Albany portion of Henry Knox's Noble Wagon Train from Ticonderoga to Boston at the dawn of the American Revolution. Visitors are invited to witness Philip Schuyler's role in the journey, and to explore an Open House tour of the mansion and several exhibits commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. This event is part of a larger Knox Trail 250 simulation of the historic journey, which includes dozens of towns from New York to Massachusetts. The next stop will be Crailo State Historic Site in Rensselaer, on January 3. Call the museum for details.

    Mine Kill State Park Phone: (518) 827-6111 Bring the whole family to enjoy a winter stroll for a good cause! In addition to a candlelit loop, there will be warm beverages, a winter craft, and holiday tunes. Free admission but a donation of canned food items for our statewide food drive strongly encouraged! Event will be held at our mid-level pavilion picnic area Accessibility information: The lit trail will be approximately 0.4 miles and is entirely paved with small inclines. There are benches along the path. Portable bathrooms will be ADA Handicap accessible. Our pavilion is connected to the paved path with no obstacles.     Crailo State Historic Site This medieval saint's day was brought by the Dutch colonists to the Hudson River Valley and traditionally celebrated on December 6th. Festivities will include 17th & 18th century traditional treats, hearth baking, live music, Open House (self-guided) tours of the museum, crafts & activities, and of course—a visit from St. Nicholas (we hope you've been good this year!).  Free to the public.

  • First Saturday Hikes in the Finger Lakes Region (Saturday, December 6, 2025 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM)

    Black Diamond Trail All ages are welcome as we get some exercise, build community, and learn a bit more about each park's history, geology, and unique natural history. First Saturday Hikes are free to join, and no registration is required. For questions about hike locations, difficulty, or other related questions, please email FingerLakesEducation@parks.ny.gov. Meet at the Jacksonville Road parking lot. The hike will go out 2 ½ miles on the Black Diamond Trail, then turn around and return to the parking lot. Approximately 5 miles. Hike length and exact route is subject to change due to weather conditions.

From 2:00 – 6:00 PM meet Saratoga victor and New Windsor Cantonment commander Major General Horatio Gates who was not very happy to be assigned this house for the winter of 1782-83.

    Robert H. Treman State Park All ages are welcome as we get some exercise, build community, and learn a bit more about each park's history, geology, and unique natural history. Meet at the Upper Entrance parking lot by the Old Mill. The hike will begin on the Rim Trail and will continue to the Lower Park. We will return to the Upper Entrance via the Gorge Trail.
